うちには「4人」の仲良しがいます。娘2人と、猫2匹。

家族が増えたのは、偶然の出会いからでした。
サビ猫のニョッキは6年前、京都のビルの屋根裏でネズミ捕りにかかっていた子猫。保護されたあと、わが家が里親として迎えました。いまでは娘や息子と同じ、きょうだいの一人です。
白黒ぶちのクロは、去年の冬にやってきた男の子。こちらも里親として引き取りました。

ところが、最初の2匹はとにかくけんかばかり。正直「この2匹、大丈夫かな」と思っていました。
それがいつの間にか、本当の親子のように毎日くっついて過ごすようになりました。南砺の静かな里山で、子どもたちと猫たちが一緒に大きくなっていく。その姿をどこかに残したくて、今回のリールを作りました。

前編をAIで実験的に作ってみました。動画は、2匹がそろって踊るおもしろ映像から始まり、出会った頃の大げんか、そして今の仲良しぶりへとつながっていきます。最後は、金色のマスクをつけたクロとニョッキを娘たちが抱き上げて、外で全力ダンス。木の塀と青空の下で「4人は大の仲良し。」で締めくくりました。実は完成までに、何度も手直しをしています。
・最初はニョッキだけがマスクをつけていたので、クロにもおそろいのマスクを。
・ニョッキの柄を、本当の姿どおりサビ猫に。
・最後のダンスを、もっと元気いっぱいに。

動物たちの動きやダンスの場面にはAIの力も借りていますが、2匹の生い立ちや、けんかから仲良しになった流れは、わが家の本当の話です。

里山に移り住んだのは、ここを「ついの住処」にしたかったからです。自分の魂や物語が、子どもへ、そしてその先の孫へと続いていく場所。自分はそれを受け継ぐ人であり、同時にこの土地の空気の一部にもなっていく。そんな場所で暮らしたいと思いました。
町なかではなく、少し高いところから町を見下ろせるこの景色が好きです。川の音、鳥の声、動物や虫たちの気配が、いつもすぐそばにあります。自然には自然のリズムがあって、ここでは自分たちが主人ではなく、お客さん。主人は自然のほうです。
猫たちも子どもたちも、そのリズムの中でけんかをして、仲直りをして、大きくなっていきます。

けんかしても、時間をかければ家族になれる。
猫たちに、そんな当たり前のことを教えてもらいました。

We have a "family of four" who are the best of friends: our two daughters and our two cats.
Our family grew through chance encounters.
Nyokki, our tortoiseshell, was a kitten we found six years ago, caught in a mouse trap in the attic of a building in Kyoto. After she was rescued, we took her in as her foster family. Today she's one of the siblings, just like our daughters and our son.
Kuro, our black-and-white boy, came to us last winter. We took him in as a foster too.

At first, though, the two of them did nothing but fight. Honestly, I wondered if they'd ever get along.
Then, before we knew it, they started spending every day side by side, like a real parent and child. Kids and cats growing up together in a quiet satoyama in Nanto. I wanted to keep that somewhere, so I made this reel.

The video opens with a funny clip of the two cats dancing together, moves through their big fights when they first met, and ends with how close they are now. In the finale, our daughters lift Kuro and Nyokki, both wearing golden masks, and dance with everything they've got outside. Under a blue sky in front of a wooden fence, it closes with "The four of them are the best of friends."

It actually took several rounds of revisions to finish:

• At first only Nyokki had a mask, so we gave Kuro a matching one.
• We changed Nyokki's coat to a tortoiseshell, true to how she really looks.
• We cleaned up a bit of leftover food on the younger girl's mouth.
• We made the final dance much more energetic.
• We matched the older girl's face to a new photo so she looks more like herself.
  We had some help from AI for the animals' movements and the dance scene, but the cats' backstories and how they went from fighting to the best of friends are our family's true story.

We moved to the satoyama because we wanted it to be our final home. A place where our spirit and our story carry on to our children, and to their children after them. I wanted to live somewhere I could be the one who carries that on, and at the same time become part of the air of this land.
I didn't want to live in town. I love this view, where from a little higher up you can look down on the town below. The sound of the river, birdsong, and the presence of animals and insects are always close by. Nature has its own rhythm, and here we are not the hosts but the guests. Nature is the host.
In that rhythm, our cats and our kids fight, make up, and grow up.

Even after a fight, given time, you can become family.
Our cats taught us that simple truth.

🐾🎶 Not four pets, four friends! Kuro × Nyokki × our daughters: a surprise collab is born.  We danced our hearts out outside, and somehow our bond got even stronger.
